Firmware Update for Commander and Scout (UFCD)
Firmware Update for Commander and Scout (UFCD)

Firmware updates allow access to new features and functionality along with minor bug fixes to existing features. See the release notes for details.

The firmware update is available as an ISO image file. After downloading, the file is used to create a UFCD. Do not burn the file to a CD directly. Use this file to create the CD with a CD burner software program. All CD ROM software packages allow you to use an image file to create a CD. This single update package will apply to any Commander C10 or Scout SS1 device regardless of specific model type.

Release notes

The UFCD is a Linux bootable disk that runs the firmware update control program. Boot a standalone computer or laptop (PC) from this CD. You may need to change the boot order of the PC. The menu system provides instructions on how to connect and power cycle the unit to be updated. The update process, once started, takes about 7 to 10 minutes to complete. All user information and programming of the Commander/Scout is maintained.

A Scout device is connected directly to the PC Ethernet port. A Commander must be connected via Port #1. Any standard Ethernet cable, straight or crossover may be used. The connection may be through other switches on your network. When power is cycled, the update program will detect the broadcast Ethernet packet from the device being upgraded and make the connection to it.

As the flash memory is updated, LEDs on Scout will progress from left to right, the Status LED on Commander will blink.
Different colors will indicate erase, write and verify of the flash memory partitions. The update program will also provide progress indication. Do not remove power from the Scout/Commander during the process and do not reboot the PC until the process is completed. When the update is finished, the UFCD program will then provide selections to update another device or shutdown.
