Copying the database for support or backup

  1. First you will need to stop the Pilot server service. This can be done with the Pilot Dashboard.

  2. Check which database which you are using. (If you followed the instruction manual, the database will be named PILOT). To check this, click on the Setup button in the Pilot Dashboard window. A new window will be opened.
  3. In the new window you see below a dropdown box called “Catalog to use”, this is the database which is currently used by Pilot. Remember the name of the database and close the window.

  4. Now you should stop the MS-SQL server. This can be done trough the Windows services window.

  5. Press on the Stop button the new window named “SQL Server Service Manager”, after a while the status will change to stopped.

  6. Now you can copy the SQL database files, if you did a default installation of MS-SQL server they are stored on the following location: “C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data”. Go to this location with the file explorer.
  7. In the folder you will find a couple of files. Search for the files that start with the name of your database. You should have to files, e.g.: Pilot.mdf and Pilot_log.ldf. Copy these files to a safe location.
  8. Now you have copied the files you can start the SQL server again, after the SQL server is started you can start the Pilot server service again.
